YA VAULT [2}, ON MY WISHLIST {2}

Young Adult Vault

Young Adult Vault...is a Saturday meme hosted by Short and Sweet that encourages the sharing of  "hidden gems" and favorite books from years past.

A few rules from Short and Sweet:

1.  The book MUST be a YA book (hence the name).

2.  The book has to be at least one year older than the date you post it.

3. Please grab the button I made for this meme- I worked so hard on it!

  A Mango-Shaped Space
Wendy Mass
Published: April 16, 2003
From Goodreads:
Mia Winchell seems to be a typical teenager, but shes keeping a huge secret from everyone who knows her: sounds, numbers, and words appear in color for her. Mia has synesthesia, the mingling of perceptions whereby a person can see sounds, smell colors, or taste shapes. When trouble in school forces Mia to reveal her condition, her friends and family can't relate to her, and she must look to herself to develop an understanding and appreciation for her gift. Spiced with wit and humor, A Mango-Shaped Space is a poignant coming-of-age novel that will intrigue readers long after theyve turned the last page. Praised by reviewers and award-winning authors alike, A Mango-Shaped Space has brought renewed attention to the fascinating world of synesthesia, which includes famous artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Serge Rachmaninoff.

I purchased this book a few years ago totally on a whim. I simply loved the title and cover. I never expected to find a story that moved me so much. This is a touching, real, honest book that discusses a disorder that not many people are aware of...before reading this book, I had never heard of it. But at its core, it is about so much more: family, love, friendship, acceptance. This is a book that I recommend often to people of all ages.

This book can be purchased here:

On My Wishlist... is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where we list all the books we desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too

Carrier of the Mark
Leigh Fallon
Pub. Date: Oct. 4 2011
From Goodreads:
Their love was meant to be.When Megan Rosenberg moves to Ireland, everything in her life seems to fall into place. After growing up in America, she's surprised to find herself feeling at home in her new school. She connects with a group of friends, and she is instantly drawn to darkly handsome Adam DeRís.

But Megan is about to discover that her feelings for Adam are tied to a fate that was sealed long ago—and that the passion and power that brought them together could be their ultimate destruction.

Possess
Gretchen McNeil
Pub. Date: Aug. 23, 2011
From Goodreads:

Fifteen-year-old Bridget Liu just wants to be left alone: by her mom, by the cute son of a local police sergeant, and by the eerie voices she can suddenly and inexplicably hear. Unfortunately for Bridget, it turns out the voices are demons – and Bridget has the rare ability to banish them back to whatever hell they came from.

Terrified to tell people about her new power, Bridget confides in a local priest who enlists her help in increasingly dangerous cases of demonic possession. But just as she is starting to come to terms with her new power, Bridget receives a startling message from one of the demons. Now Bridget must unlock the secret to the demons' plan before someone close to her winds up dead – or worse, the human vessel of a demon king

Scars
Cheryl Rainfield
Pub date: March 24 2010
From Goodreads:

Kendra, fifteen, hasn't felt safe since she began to recall devastating memories of childhood sexual abuse, especially because she still can't remember the most important detail-- her abuser's identity. Frightened, Kendra believes someone is always watching and following her, leaving menacing messages only she understands. If she lets her guard down even for a minute, it could cost Kendra her life. To relieve the pressure, Kendra cuts; aside from her brilliantly expressive artwork, it's her only way of coping. Since her own mother is too self-absorbed to hear her cries for help, Kendra finds support in others instead: from her therapist and her art teacher, from Sandy, the close family friend who encourages her artwork, and from Meghan, the classmate who's becoming a friend and maybe more. But the truth about Kendra's abuse is just waiting to explode, with startling unforeseen consequences. Scars is the unforgettable story of one girl's frightening path to the truth.
